CUSTOM
WORK
-
How we do it -
At
Xquisite Automotive we have spent many years testing
different methods for custom bodywork. This has allowed
us to use the best methods and products to ensure
our work is to the highest quality and will last.
Over the years, we have seen many vehicles with the
usual and quite common problems of mapping and cracking.
Unfortunately the nature of fibreglass products do
cause sinkage or movement, but this can be minimalised.
Here are a few examples of our techniques that will
stop these effects.

Metal plating
The
correct technique in removing number plate
recesses, door handles and any fixtures and
fittings on metal parts of the car body is
to weld or bond a plate in place. We have
found that plating holes and then filling
recesses with fibreglass paste and bodyfiller
will lead to sinkage and cracks. Our method
involves removing any recesses and plating
directly upto the factory panel. This allows
us to use the bare minimum of fibreglass and
bodyfiller, or allows us to lead fill. We
also use a new panel bonding system on vehicles
with thinner gauge metal to avoid warping,
and therefore excess bodyfiller.

Plastic welding
This
is a term that is quite a grey area amongst
consumers. Plastic welding is the joining of
2 plastics with similar properties using heat.
The smoothing of factory plastic bumpers is
proving to be a very popular modification and
to reduce any chance of deterioration, we plastic
weld any holes or recesses. |

-
High Temperature Bake
Low
bake ovens seem to be a very popular terminology
amongst repairers and bodyshops. Our methodology
is in fact the complete opposite. When we fabricate
fibreglass parts, or use fibreglass we bake
the areas at a high temperature to force the
fibreglass to sink. This allows us to repair
any effected areas and ensure that our work
will not sink when in direct sunlight. |
|
-
Lead Filling
Lead
filling is an old method that is used as a replacement
to fibreglass and filler. This method uses lead
that is heated into place. This is our preferred
method when flushing recesses and holes. Lead
filling cannot sink or move, but proves to be
more costly due to the extra labour involved.
